GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Provides effective foreign/second language instruction to elementary students (Grades K – Grade
5). K-5 foreign/second language teachers instruct students in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in a language other than English while fostering cultural appreciation.
Foreign/Second Language positions include but are not limited to:
Spanish, French, Sign Language (ASL), German, Mandarin Chinese, Latin, and Arabic.
Assists pupils in need of help and prepares lessons, tests, and evaluations. Actively participates in committee work (departmental, curriculum, etc.), staff meetings, and conferences with pupils, parents, colleagues, administration, and parents.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Adheres to rules, regulations, and bylaws of the Board of Education.
- Complies promptly with all administrative directives issued by the superintendent of schools or any administrative subordinate within the scope of his authority.
- Maintains a strong working knowledge and application of the philosophy, courses of study, techniques, and objectives applicable to the area of specialization and assignment.
- Directs and evaluates the learning experiences of the pupil.
- Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to good instruction.
- Ensures parents are accurately informed of student growth and development.
- Participates in in-service education programs and professional growth activities, including faculty committees and system-wide committee assignments.
- Participates in assignments and activities to promote better school-community relations (parent conferences, activities, etc).
- Performs other specific duties as assigned by the building administrator.
Proper Connecticut teaching certification required. Academic preparation; knowledge of best practices across the curriculum and ability to modify the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners. Must be a flexible collaborator with an understanding of children's developmental stages.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTSalary and benefits in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Windsor Board of Education and the Windsor Education Association.
