Position Purpose

Oversee and support the School’s commitment to the mission and educational philosophy as articulated by the Society of the Sacred Heart in a role that is 100% adult-facing.

Specific Expectations for employees serving on the Schools Administrative Council (SAC)

In addition to duties and essential job functions listed in job descriptions, the following responsibilities are expected of all employees serving on SAC:

  • Professional development as required and approved by the Director of Schools, work beyond your regular hours when required by your supervisor, and participation in mandatory meetings and/or events as directed by your supervisor including but not limited to the Cor Unum Society Dinner, the Annual Auction, and Board of Trustees and SAC meetings and retreats.
  • Responsibilities associated with emergency situations, risk management and general support of the Schools and school programs.
  • Professional demeanor and attire suiting your area of work and with the knowledge that you are a representative of the Director of Schools and Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton.
Essential Duties

I. Catholic & Sacred Heart Identity Leadership
  • Stand as the institutional representative of the Society of the Sacred Heart and the Roman Catholic Church as we commit to our Catholic and Sacred Heart identities.
  • Serve as a member of the School Administrative Council, clearly articulating the vision of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat and the priorities of the Society of the Sacred Heart.
  • Guide members of the School Administrative Council and the Board of Trustees regarding questions about our Catholic and Sacred Heart identities and support in leading orientations and retreats.
  • Sit on Board committees as invited by Committee Chairs.
  • Increase Network engagement both with the local Network and the International Network.
II. Mission Culture, Strategy, and Accreditation Leadership
  • Direct the Office of Mission and Ministry, integrating DEIA and Dignity Consciousness work with the mission and ministry initiatives.
  • Alongside the divisional Directors of Mission and Culture, continue implementing and growing Restorative Practices, helping develop the Sacred Heart way of implementing them.
  • Alongside the School Administrative Council (SAC), lead the Sacred Heart Commission on Goals (SHCOG) accreditation and action plan processes.
  • Lead the WASC/CAIS/WCEA accreditation process for the Catholic Identity and Mission sections.
  • Provide aspirational leadership for all educators engaged in student formation, helping align mission and educational philosophy with strategic priorities.
III. Mission & Ministry Department Leadership
  • Supervise the Office of Mission & Ministry team, including the Assistant for Pastoral Care, Assistant to the Director for Apostolic Outreach, Prep Campus Ministry team, and the Lower School Coordinator for Service Learning.
  • Advise and collaborate with the LMS Campus Minister.
  • Oversee the Mission and Ministry budget in collaboration with the Finance and Accounting department.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant to the Director for Pastoral Care and the Campus Ministry teams to implement a coherent, thoughtful, and meaningful approach to communal prayer and retreat experiences.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant to the Director for Apostolic Outreach to revisit institutional goals related to service and direct necessary changes tied to the strategic pillar of service.
IV. Formation to Mission & Professional Growth
  • Host New Employee Mission Orientation in August and makeup sessions in January.
  • Host orientations, collaborate on retreats, provide mission leadership to the Board of Trustees and committee members, and attend and sit on Board of Trustees committees as needed.
  • Implement the School’s education-to-mission plan, initiatives, and programs, including collaborating with the Director of Schools for Director’s Days, with both division heads for induction, and with Pro Grow on opportunities for all areas of the educator community.
