Overview
Menlo Middle School (grades 6-8) is seeking an enthusiastic educator with middle school teaching experience to teach sixth or seventh grade Social Sciences. Middle School core subject teachers have four class sections with at least two class periods for preparation in a rotating block schedule. All teachers participate in an extracurricular activity and also serve as advisors for a group of 10-11 students.
Teachers work closely with the Department Chair and the Middle School Director for guidance, curriculum assessment, and evaluation. Teachers meet regularly with both grade-level teams and the middle school Social Sciences department to discuss curriculum, pedagogy, student progress, and special initiatives.
Sixth Grade Social Sciences centers on the study of human geography, providing a foundational framework for students to develop as informed and engaged global citizens. Students examine key concepts such as globalization, immigration, and spatial inequality, and analyze how these dynamics manifest across societies around the world.
Seventh Grade Social Sciences examines medieval world history with an emphasis on socioeconomic, governmental, and religious systems. Students analyze similarities and differences across medieval societies and evaluate how these historical structures and practices inform the organization and functioning of societies today.
In both courses, students complete culminating assessments that develop essential social sciences skills focusing on effective argumentative writing, research, speaking, and presentation skills.
