Part‑time, hourly adjunct instructors are accepted continuously. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications may be contacted directly by department supervisors, deans, and division chairs. Successful candidates will provide instruction in a full range of Emergency Medical Technologies courses. Applications are retained for up to two years.
Representative Duties- Provide instruction in Emergency Medical Technologies courses.
- Teach at multiple campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning and use multiple teaching methodologies.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Public Services department.
- Maintain subject matter currency; develop and revise curriculum; use computer and multimedia technology; participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Bachelor's degree and two years work experience.
- Associate’s degree and six years work experience.
- Or possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Emergency Medical Technology at the California Community College level.
- Or the equivalent, subject to evaluation.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Degrees earned in a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
Desired Qualifications- Be a Physician, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Paramedic currently licensed in California; or
- Be an Advanced EMT or EMT who is currently certified in California.
- Have at least two (2) years of academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine or prehospital care in the last five (5) years.
- Be approved by the program director in coordination with the program clinical coordinator as qualified to teach the assigned topics. All principal instructors from approved EMT Training Programs must meet the minimum qualifications specified by the governing section.
- Work effectively with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
- Work effectively with students of varied skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Develop curriculum, including delivery via different modalities.
- Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain subject matter currency.
- Assess student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrate knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Commit to the California community college mission.
