Psychology Instructor, Part‑time Adjunct Pool - ESCC

Basic FunctionKern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. The starting salary range is $67.00 per hour, which may vary based on type of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. Applications remain active for up to two years.
Representative DutiesThe successful applicant will provide instruction in psychology courses
, particularly General Psychology for transfer to four‑year institutions. The course is a 54‑hour lecture course delivered two days per week for 16 weeks at both the Bishop and Mammoth Lakes campuses, and may be partially delivered via interactive television and/or online. The applicant will spend equal time in both locations and complete any required training for online instruction as needed.
- Master’s in psychology;
- Or Bachelor’s in psychology AND Master’s in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work;
- Or possession of a valid credential that authorizes full‑time teaching of psychology at the California Community College level;
- Or the equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be judged as equal to these qualifications. Submit an application for equivalence form with supporting documents.
- A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Degrees and credits from accredited institutions.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning and service to a diverse student population.
- Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency.
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.

Applicants with foreign degrees must have coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of NACES or ACEI and submit the evaluation with the online application.
