Position: Asphalt Foreman (San Diego)
Location: Lakeside

A San Diego based Construction Company with operations throughout Southern California currently ASPHALT FOREMAN for its San Diego, California Division to perform various tasks related to the Paving Division.

Job Duties:

The duties for this position will include and not be limited to performing physical labor for;

Under general supervision, functions as a working supervisor/crew leader, supervising asphalt laborers and equipment operators performing work activities relating to the spreading, finishing and compacting of asphalt. Performs related duties as required.

  • Supervise an assigned work crew performing semi-skilled asphalt laborer duties including raking, smoothing and tamping relating to the pavement, re-surfacing and repair.
  • Supervise an assigned crew filling potholes and repairing surfaces using high performance / cold patch asphalt during the winter months.
  • Supervises grinding and other crews operating asphalt equipment, including operating grinders, pavers and rollers.
  • Receive and prioritize daily work assignments.
  • Observe work in progress and provide guidance and direction on work procedures and techniques to asphalt laborers.
  • Ensure timely delivery of hot asphalt.
  • Monitor and supply needed asphalt and supplies to complete the job.
  • Complete activity sheets to report jobs completed, including information of materials used, location of work site, heavy equipment used and crew work assignments.
  • Ensure safe work procedures and safe work practices are followed at work sites.
  • Ensure barricades and other safety equipment are set up and in place while work is in progress.
  • Working knowledge of all customer Standards.
  • Ability to communicate and understand potential change orders and manage their completion in a timely manner.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks on an IPAD as required by company procedure.
    • Time keeping, Quality Checklists, Inventory Ordering, etc.
    • JSA’s, Safety Meetings and Standard Updates.
  • Ability to “Train” new employees to the industry or company.
    • Mentor “up and coming” laborers to become future Foreman.
  • Ability to recognize safety concerns and exercise proper authority to mitigate risk and proper reporting.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

NOTE:

Special Skills or Requirements:
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Advanced knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in asphalt.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety principals, methods, practices, and procedures specific to asphalt work.
  • Use of PPE's
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of first aid and basic safety rules.
  • Must be able to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects 50-60 lbs. on a regular basis, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to utilize “Electronic” devices in the administration of all jobs. (IPAD, Computer)
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an Insurable Driving record as per the company insurance standards.
Education and/or

Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 5 years of Asphalt experience is required.
  • Must be willing to join to the local Labor Union this position is covered under.
