A Typical Day

The Dairy Relations Coordinator serves as a crucial link between dairy farmers and Hilmar, focusing on the production of high‑quality milk and providing information about policies, pricing, government regulations, and industry trends. Strong writing and editing skills will be required. Building and maintaining strong relationships with both dairy farmers and the community is essential. This role will also involve addressing issues related to milk quality and collaborating with Hilmar production facilities to address any shrinkage or quality concerns.

Promoting Hilmar within the community is a key aspect of this position.

Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored support to Hilmar dairymen and dairywomen to ensure they produce high‑quality milk.
  • Create written content for periodic newsletter‑style communications for the dairies.
  • Generate weekly quality communications including weekly quality reports and red flag letters.
  • Communicate the latest news in the dairy industry to Hilmar dairymen and dairywomen across economics, reform and pricing.
  • Respond promptly to farmer inquiries and relay relevant information to management.
  • Assist in hosting quarterly farmer round tables with Hilmar leadership.
  • Conduct regular farm visits to ensure compliance with Hilmar, state and federal inspection standards.
  • Identify dairy farmers we do not work with today and introduce them to Hilmar.
  • Maintain a list of prospective Hilmar dairies and engage with them regularly.
  • Monitor milk quality metrics and provide technical assistance to address issues.
  • Advise farmers on advanced production techniques to enhance milk yield or expand operations.
  • Be available for rotating on‑call support, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with milk haulers and work with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with milk transport laws.
  • Keep lines of communication open with farmers, haulers, customers, competitors, regulatory agencies, and the public.
  • Coordinate, schedule and assist conducting farm tours for internal partners.
  • Assist with plant shrinkage issues and perform regular plant visits to oversee the weighing, scaling, and sampling of milk trucks.
  • Achieve certification as an evaluator in animal care, workforce development, and environmental stewardship through the FARM program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
  • High School Diploma and 10 years related experience OR associate’s degree and 5 years’ experience OR Bachelor's degree plus 3 years related experience in the dairy industry.
  • Proficient in computer applications and Excel.
  • Strong listening skills and ability to follow and implement instructions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities efficiently and within deadlines.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, agriculture economics or animal science. Plus, five years related experience OR Master’s degree plus one year related experience in the dairy industry.
  • Proven ability to create, edit and publish written content.
  • Working knowledge of Web‑based Data Reporting a plus.
  • Knowledge of dairy regulations and their implementation.
  • Understanding of issues related to milk production and transportation.
