The class is the experienced paraprofessional level in the broad Administrative Services series.

The class is the experienced paraprofessional level in the broad Administrative Services series. Assignments in this class are programmatic in nature and may include significant budget responsibilities. Positions in this class are normally found in larger departments that have higher-level Administrative Support positions performing the more complex administrative work, and with the authority to make recommendations or decisions at a management level.

Depending upon the department to which assigned, the conduct of analytical studies related to departmental operational activities and lead direction of others are often included in the work responsibilities. Successful performance of the work requires a definable body of knowledge and skill, which is normally gained through a combination of technical education above the high school level and significant on-the-job administrative support experience.

This class is distinguished from Administrative Services Officer in that the latter is the first professional level within the Administrative Services series, providing the full range of administrative, analytical and budgetary support in a smaller County department or organizational unit within a department. It is further distinguished from Administrative Assistant to the Director of Human Resources in that the latter provides administrative support in areas where the work has significant labor relations strategy involvement and implications.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls;

and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work is usually performed in a typical office setting with moderate noise and may require evening and weekend work. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
