Location: Norden

The Senior Accountant oversees the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable. This position is responsible for all aspects of the general ledger, as well as financial statement review and assisting with audits and budget preparation. The Senior Accountant is a year-round, full-time role, primarily onsite.

Who you are

  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience. Experience in hospitality, resort, or outdoor recreation industries is highly desirable.
  • Systems Knowledge:
    Proficiency in accounting software (Great Plains) and resort management systems (RTP) required. Advanced Excel skills required. Experience with POS and revenue management systems is a plus.
  • Financial Expertise:
    Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and budgeting, especially in a seasonal business environment.
  • Analytical

    Skills:

    Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to improve profitability.
  • Communication:
    Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, marketing, homeowner and guest services.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    Prior ski resort experience is highly desirable, with an understanding of seasonal revenue cycles, lift ticket and season pass sales, rental and retail operations, hospitality, and capital investment in ski resort infrastructure.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving:
    Ability to work effectively and problem solve in a complex, fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Mountain Resort Lifestyle:
    Ability to thrive in a snowbound mountain environment, with an understanding that peak business periods are winter weekends and holidays.

What you will do

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Perform all core accounting functions, including:
    • Preparation and posting of journal entries.
    • General ledger reconciliations and adjustments.
    • Monitoring and managing deferred revenue accounts.
    • Month-end close and preparation of financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, and cash flow statements).
  • Oversee daily revenue audits to ensure accurate tracking of ticket sales, season passes, rentals, lodging, food & beverage, and other resort revenue streams, as well as discounts.
  • Analyze financial data to provide insights on trends, variances, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Assist with budget development, forecasting, and financial planning, considering seasonal revenue fluctuations.
  • Support the annual audit process, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Cash Management

  • Supervise accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes, ensuring accuracy and timely payments and collections.
  • Address billing issues, payment discrepancies, and credit card disputes.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Identify and implement procedures to streamline accounting processes, enhancing accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, financial regulations, and internal control policies.
  • Identify areas for cost savings, process automation, and operational improvements.
  • Train and provide guidance to accounting and other staff on best practices and financial protocols.

Operational & Cross-Departmental Support

  • Lead or contribute to special projects that enhance financial performance and operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with resort operations, guest services, and department managers to optimize financial workflows.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership for improving profitability.
  • Assist with winter operations and other business needs as required.
