Program Lead, Sport and Wilderness Programs

As Program Lead, Sport and Wilderness Programs you will be overseeing all aspects of Win Sport’s Sport and Wilderness programming: summer, fall, winter and spring. You will ensure smooth operations and positive guest experiences by developing, implementing, maintaining, optimizing, and growing solutions within your function, and by developing, maintaining, and leading a successful team through performance management and evaluation of instructors and coaches.

You will also ensure equipment and work areas are safe and well-maintained for use by guests and team members alike.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for leading, supervising, and training of Team Leads, Instructors, and Coaches
  • Work with cross-functional partners to develop and update manuals, policies and procedures for all training and instructional features
  • Work with Team & Culture to plan and execute recruitment of Instructors, Coaches, Shift Leads, and Administrative Team Members. Hire, develop, and maintain high-performing teams in each area of Sport Operations
  • Create and lead training sessions for Win Sport team members on topics including instruction techniques, participant evaluation and safe equipment use
  • Actively engage in instructor lessons and offer feedback to build an effective coaching system
  • Contribute and provide operational insight during toolbox discussions
  • Ensure scheduling and shift coverage are appropriate for daily business. Balance the needs of the organization, guest value, and the expectations of Team Members
  • Ensure the completion and submission of timesheets to ensure payroll is done on time and accurately
  • Oversee performance management of instructors, coaches, and administrative Team Members and provide feedback for improvement, including disciplinary measures as necessary
  • Collaborate with the operations department to plan and organize operational and program needs to connect program requirements with venues available
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices
  • Act as Win Sport’s Summer Camp ambassador and build relationships with local groups
  • Build, maintain, and adhere to departmental budget; achieve sales targets, oversee expenses and revenue including the oversight of temporary labor. Demonstrate cost consciousness in managing Sport Operations.
  • Liaison with Guest Services for product knowledge of programs and services
  • Lead by example in promoting a safe work environment by adhering to all Win Sport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports and Win Sport guests
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a related field required
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership role required
  • Post‑secondary education in Sport & Recreation Management or related field of study is considered an asset
  • Up to date and current First Aid and CPR is required
  • Previous experience coaching and teaching required
  • NCCP Certification is considered an asset
  • Previous experience in the sport and recreation industry, preferably with a focus in mountain sport
  • Reliable and conscientious in carrying out work‑related tasks
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a consistently fast‑paced environment, with the ability to delegate tasks as appropriate
  • Understanding of, respect for, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality where required
  • Must be enthusiastic and have a positive attitude at work
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Experience working with and leading individuals of all ages is an asset
