Equinox Engineering is seeking a hands‑on AI Automation Developer to design and build practical, AI‑driven internal tools that improve workflows across the organization. This role focuses on delivering production‑ready solutions that integrate into real operational processes rather than exploratory or research‑based development.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams to translate operational challenges into working software. Adaptability and the ability to rapidly solve real‑world problems are key expectations of this role. Leveraging modern generative AI technologies alongside full‑stack development practices, comfort using and guiding AI agents as part of the development workflow is essential.

• Design and implement internal tools using an AI‑first development approach
• Translate operational requirements into working, maintainable applications
• Develop backend services, APIs, and user interfaces
• Combine prompts, logic, validation, and error handling into reliable workflows
• Integrate solutions with existing systems and databases
• Collaborate directly with users to iterate and improve tools based on feedback
• Manage imperfect real‑world inputs and edge cases

The specific work will vary based on business needs and may include development of:

• Software that interprets technical documents or drawings
• Workflow automation tools
• Internal assistants and copilots
• Data extraction and validation utilities
• Small internal web applications
• Process‑specific automation tools
• Structured information generation solutions
• Adaptability and rapid problem‑solving are key expectations of this role.

Practical AI Development

• Experience building applications using large language model (LLM) APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or local models)
• Experience with structured outputs and reliability techniques
• Document and image understanding workflows
• Retrieval‑based systems and context management

Software Development

• Python backend development
• Containerized development using Docker
• Type Script frontend development with modern frameworks
• REST API design and data modeling
• Experience with relational and vector databases
• Version control using Git and basic deployment practices
• Knowledge graph (KG) development

Working Style

• Comfortable working in ambiguous problem spaces
• Ability to build quickly and iteratively
• Focus on delivering practical, usable solutions
• Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills

Helpful but Not Required

• Experience with technical or industrial environments
• OCR, parsing, or computer vision
• Embeddings
• Internal tool development experience

What Success Looks Like

Within the first months, you are independently delivering working tools that staff adopt in day‑to‑day tasks and that measurably reduce manual work.
