The OpportunityThe Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join the talented team at the Information Management and Technology (IMT) Branch. At the IMT Branch, we are responsible for delivering and supporting information technology systems and data management tools for the rest of the organization.
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Employment Type: Student, 4-month term
Salary Range: $21.90 - $28.53 per hour
- Participate in the design and implementation of full‑stack applications using a cloud‑based architectural framework
- Analyze technical requirements, develop, test and deploy new software solutions or functional enhancements in a Dev Ops environment
- Apply the development processes established by the development team such as code review, change management and all Dev Ops practices
- Build and maintain Azure‑based front‑end, Microservices and Functions (Express/Node) back‑end using Azure Dev Ops Pipelines
- Participate in building cutting‑edge micro‑services architecture following best‑in‑industry patterns
- Design and develop front‑end and back‑end components (service‑based using JavaScript framework)
- Actively learn and seek out ways to continuously improve, researching best practices and suggesting appropriate technologies
- Contribute to product development, engage with team members and cross‑functional teams to define solutions, and estimate the scope of work required
- Participate in code reviews, API design reviews, and technical reviews of product stories
- Support best practices including unit testing and continuous delivery
- Support the entire application lifecycle (concept, design, test, release and support)
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
- Basic understanding of web development
- Interest in cloud technologies (Azure, AWS or similar)
- Familiarity with object‑oriented programming concepts
- Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn new tools and frameworks
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post‑secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co‑op program will be a condition of hire
