This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta, requiring in-person collaboration at the West Jet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE). Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Overview of the role:

The student information technology developer will engage in an exciting relationship with an appointed mentor and work with the greater team creating high-quality software solutions. Specific areas of learning will cover the application of industry-standard processes, practices, and techniques to develop web-based applications and APIs. There will be extensive opportunity to work closely with the development team and business stakeholders to develop appropriate object-oriented software systems that meet West Jet’s business, technical, and quality requirements.

This role will align impeccably with an energetic self-starter who has a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Our business is growing and evolving, so the successful student must exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoy challenges, and be results-driven.

This role can start June 1st or September 1st with an end date of August 30, 2026.

This opportunity will present learning opportunities in the following disciplines:

• Greater understanding of West Jet’s product features and environments
• Exposure to design, development methodologies, coding standards, and style guidelines
• Participate in workshops, presentations, and training for skill development
• Learn to work with business stakeholders to define functional and design specifications
• Pair with team members to complete tasks, code reviews, and perform demos
• Become skilled in providing accurate estimates for development effort, complexity, and risk
• Understand the development of automated unit, acceptance, and integration tests
• Study the development of robust, extensible, high-quality code
• Discover the workflow between operational partners for supportability of new features/products
• Gather, review, and provide input and analysis for back-end code, unit tests, and automated tests
• Document system components and provide input into preparing release notes

Education & Business Acumen

• Enrolled in an applicable University Program with 3 years completed towards your bachelor’s degree or a new graduate in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Must be analytical and have effective problem-solving skills
