The Position

– Youth and Family Practitioner

This 0.8 position will be based at Journeys and will include direct involvement and support of the program and youth. Hours of work: 3-11, 4 days a week with mandatory trainings and staff meetings outside of rotation.

Responsibilities

1. Build and develop therapeutic relationship with youth to provide effective support with daily living and to work through potentially challenging situations/behaviors.

2. Using a trauma informed and culturally aware approach to create a physically and emotionally safe environment that supports program objectives.

3. Actively engage youth with day-to-day programming such as recreational activities and cultural activities.

4. Key worker responsibilities for identified youth which includes but is not limited to, developing case plans/ safety plans, supporting family connection and development of natural supports, attending appointments and meetings, collaborating with teams to work towards identified goals, creating individualized programming to meet the needs of youth.

5. Provide crisis intervention and support

6. Help ensure all accreditation standards are upkept and met

7. Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings

8. Support household health and safety standards and overall housekeeping duties including but not limited to, cooking, cleaning, errands

Education & Experience

· Diploma/ Undergraduate Degree in a Human Services related field

· Experience with trauma informed, cultural awareness and strength-based practice

· Experience working in group care programs is an asset

· Recreational experience is an asset

· CPR and first aid certification

Other Qualifications

· Valid Class 5 driver’s license ()

· A clean driver’s abstract containing not more than two (2) minor offences or one (1) major offence

· Police Record Check with Vulnerable sector check (within six (6) months)

· Child Intervention Check (within one (1) year)
