The Position
- Community Respite WorkerThe Community Respite Worker will participate in and supervise recreational activities for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities. Additionally, they will communicate confidently with caregivers to support youth with complex needs. Clients have diagnoses such as ADHD, FASD and ASD and the program focuses on strengthening self-esteem, skill development, and socialization skills. This is facilitated in a fun, structured and safe environment with a ratio of one staff to three youth, through both in-house and in-community environments.
Team members need to be available for the following shifts each week during the school year (times may vary slightly):
Saturdays 11:30 – 5:30 pm
Sundays 11:30 – 5:30 pm
It is preferable that the successful candidate is able to go to fulltime during the summer months of July and August working Mondays-Fridays 8:30-4:30.
The successful applicant will have the following Skills & Qualifications
:
· A current criminal record check including vulnerable sector (completed in the last 6 months)
· A current Alberta Intervention Record check (completed in the last 6 months)
· Degree or Diploma in Human Services or related field is preferred
· Current First Aid and CPR ‘C’
· Must be able to drive own vehicle (no GDL licenses)
· Must have a safe and reliable vehicle with room for minimally 3 passengers
· An ability to work as part of a dynamic team and confidence working independently in both in-house and in-community in a 1(staff) to 3(client) ratio.
· Experience working with children with developmental disabilities and complex needs are desirable
· De-escalation skills will be essential to this role
· Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention, Indigenous Teachings are an asset
