Compass is seeking Apprentice Welders for both Day & Night Shift. Reporting to the Foreman and Lead Hand of the Structural Department this position is responsible for providing skilled, high quality, welding for the fabrication of Compressor Skids while working within time schedules and maintaining quality standards.
What You Will Do
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Read and interpret blueprints and/or welding process specificationsFollow all welding procedures as requiredProficient in the set-up and operation of welding machines and relevant equipmentCut and cope structural steelFit and weld skids and structural subassembliesUse radiograph, hand torches, welding machines, power, and hand toolsUnderstand and participate in the Quality Control ProgramFollow written and oral instructions from the Foreman/Lead HandCommunicate with Foreman/Lead Hand to identify material or equipment deficienciesCommunicate with other workers to ensure timely job progressionOrganize and keep work area and equipment clean and functionalParticipate in Compass Safety Program including accident investigations and worksite inspectionsWear PPE and observe Health & Safety polices at all timesWork and operate equipment in a safe and competent mannerAssist in other areas of shop as required and assigned by Foreman/Lead HandWhat You Bring
Your education and experience include:
Must have:
All position CWB ticket, FCAW & SMAWFitting experience a strong assetMust have own tools as per the Compass Tool List for TradesmenKnowledge and understanding of Quality Control procedures: CWB.Knowledge and understanding of OH&S, rigging, sling, and crane operation proceduresStrong organizational, time management, and problem solving skillsTeam player with attention to detailAbility to stand for long periods of time, climb and work at heights over 10 feet, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, change room and lunch room require the use of stairsAble to work in a noisy, smoky, dusty shop environment with varying temperaturesAt Compass, we are always looking for the right people with “can do” attitudes and a willingness to help wherever needed, this means that you may need to take on other tasks and duties that may not be listed above or may change based on the location or needs of the company.
