Position Overview

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Technician
, you will be an essential member of our Maintenance Team, responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will bring your mechanical expertise and diagnostic skills to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of trucks, trailers, and support equipment. This hands‑on role requires a strong commitment to safety, a proactive approach to maintenance, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to support seamless operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance and Repair
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues across the fleet, including Freightliner, Peterbilt, Hino, Ford, and GM chassis.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and CVIP inspections to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct repairs on various equipment types, such as side-load, rear-load, and front-load trucks; roll-off trucks; cube vans; pickups; light‑duty trailers; forklifts; and telehandlers.
  • Complete all associated documentation accurately, including work orders, maintenance logs, and inspection reports.
Safety and Compliance
  • Uphold a strong safety culture by following and promoting company policies, safe work procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Perform daily pre‑trip inspections and promptly report defects, hazards, or equipment issues.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment to reduce risks and support efficient operations.
  • Assist in compliance efforts, including COR audits and adherence to Alberta Transportation Vehicle Safety regulations.
Collaboration and Support
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and other team members to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks based on operational needs.
  • Provide occasional technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Support the operational team during peak periods by ensuring fleet readiness and quickly addressing unexpected equipment issues.
Continuous Improvement
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance maintenance processes, increase equipment reliability, and improve documentation accuracy.
  • Stay current with new diagnostic technologies, tools, and maintenance techniques relevant to the industry.
  • Actively contribute to discussions on fleet upgrades, parts inventory optimization, and long‑term maintenance planning.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Journeyman's Certificate as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Technician.
  • Minimum Class 5 driver’s license (Air Brake Endorsement considered an asset).
  • Class 3 license is an asset.
  • CVIP license (or the ability to obtain one).
  • Familiarity with computerized diagnostic tools and systems.
