Environmental Scientist Student

Purpose

The successful candidate will be based out of Calgary or the surrounding area and support various environmental field programs in southern Alberta. Opportunities to support environmental field programs in other areas of the province may be available.

Responsibilities
  • Participating in safety discussions and associated documentation
  • Supporting Phase II environmental site assessment and groundwater monitoring programs
  • Potential to support various other environmental programs (fisheries, wildlife, wetlands, reclamation projects)
  • Preparing samples for submission to laboratory
  • Data entry and analysis
  • Assist with technical report preparation
  • Operating pickup truck
  • Operating a GPS and navigating in remote settings
  • Travel as required for various field programs
Qualifications

Either 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year student enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science program, or a student enrolled in a two-year Diploma program from accredited curriculum.

  • Field of study includes Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Botany, Wildlife, Geography, Natural Resource, Forestry, Renewable Resource Management, Fish and Wildlife Technology, Agricultural Science, Environmental Assessment and Restoration, or related field.
  • Experience collecting environmental samples considered an asset.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in field conditions that are both mentally and physically challenging.
  • Class 5 Driver’s license.
