Receiving Associates work as part of a team to unload merchandise from carriers and check the quantity and quality of merchandise. They handle Rough Goods Receipt (RGR) and Detail Goods Receipt (DGR), entering information about incoming merchandise into the store’s system using tools such as First Phone. All Receiving Associates must be licensed to use powered lift equipment (electric pallet jack, reach truck, order puller, forklift) when unloading trucks and moving freight to designated staging areas.
A successful associate demonstrates strong work commitment, attention to detail, and the ability to learn and follow procedures. Freight Team associates may also be required to pick orders when assigned, utilizing the Order Fulfillment Application to identify orders that need to be picked.
- Understand carrier unload processes for efficient freight management.
- Strictly follow established receiving standards.
- Clean and maintain the receiving area (remove pallets and cardboard boxes, use compactor and bailer, keep area clear).
- Unload merchandise using designated equipment.
- Receive all types of inbound freight, including BOSS and special orders.
- Identify and read vendor packing slips, carrier shipping documents, UPC labels, and other receiving documents; compare to purchase orders to ensure accuracy.
- Schedule deliveries and pre‑post information into the receiving system.
- Count carton freight and RGR merchandise to satisfy freight bill.
- Identify damaged merchandise and take appropriate action.
- Stock merchandise onto shelves to achieve 100% in‑stock.
- Use appropriate safety procedures when organizing merchandise.
- Merchandise new items as directed.
- Build end caps and promotions.
- Break down and dispose of trash by end of shift.
- Maintain safe and organized overheads (e.g., stripe overheads).
- Communicate with other Freight Team members to ensure all product is stocked in the proper place.
- Communicate in‑stock level of merchandise with the Fulfillment Team.

Physical Requirements- Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items. Frequently requires the ability to lift and move heavy and bulky items without assistance.
- Responding to public address system announcements: requires listening for customer service calls, personal pages and general information announcements.
- Walking and standing: requires moving around the store to assist customers.
- Identifying and reading reports, tickets, and UPC labels: requires recognizing, identifying, and using merchandise and necessary reports.
- Climbing ladders: requires ability to climb a ladder up to the height of 12–16 feet to obtain or stock merchandise.
- Due to forklifts and other heavy equipment traveling through the store, temporary cracks may appear in the floor, causing an uneven walking surface.
- The warehouse environment can be dusty and noisy.
- Doors are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes.
- Floor areas around the work area may become slippery during wet weather conditions.
- May have to handle merchandise and work with tools that have sharp edges.
- Tools, supplies, and related merchandise may contain hazardous material.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
