Description

The Faculty of Nursing invites applications for a Research Coordinator
. This Fixed Term Full-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position is part of the AUPE Bargaining Unit. Reports to Dr. Laurie Lee.

The Lee Lab aims to transform health care provision to critically ill children through key end user engagement including patients, families, and healthcare professionals. We use observational research (large data set, retrospective, and longitudinal prospective cohort studies), mixed methods designs, clinical trials, qualitative inquiry, and patient-oriented research to understand current care provision, short and long term outcomes, and patient and family experience in the PICU.

The current focus of this work is in 4 areas:
1) The prevention and management of PICU associated pain, agitation, and delirium,
2) Describing the long-term outcomes of critically ill children and their families including Post-Intensive Care Syndrome – Pediatrics,
3) The impact of social determinants of health (Socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, gender, etc.) on PICU care and outcomes,
4) Access to organ donation. Our entire program is situated in an integrated Knowledge Translation approach and as such we routinely engage clinicians, patients/parents, and policy makers in our research to ensure that outcomes are meaningful and understandable to the knowledge user. The Lee Lab works closely with the ACH PICU Research Program and their staff as the programs of research regularly intersect and overlap.

Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to)
  • Collaborate with the PI to ensure all aspects of Lee Lab program of research continue to move forward. This includes close collaboration with the ACH PICU Research program to ensure Lee Lab related studies are implemented and executed. Work with ACH PICU Research program to ensure compliance with study protocols, ethics guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Acts as a resource for research assistants and students engaged with the Lee Lab. Assist with leading studies with manageable risks and resource requirements. Responsible to coach, mentor, train and advise others in junior roles. Lead projects and act as an in-scope supervisor for team members.
  • Collaborate effectively and work to build consensus with interdisciplinary research teams, including investigators, study coordinators, research assistants, and laboratory personnel.
  • Collect, record, and manage research data in accordance with study protocols and standard operating procedures. Utilize electronic data capture systems and maintain organized and detailed study files. Perform data quality checks and ensure data integrity and study fidelity.
  • Clean and conduct planned analysis on quantitative data collected as part of Lee Lab led studies. Conduct descriptive statistics and univariate analysis with a willingness to learn multivariate and more complex statistical analysis.
  • Work with Dr. Lee to draft manuscripts. Assist in manuscript submission, revision, and publication. Liaise with the nursing research office to identify potential grants for development of Lee Lab programs of research. Work with Dr. Lee to draft, edit, and complete necessary documentation for local Tri-Council, and other grant opportunities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to ethical and regulatory requirements governing clinical trials. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of regulatory files and study-related documentation. Provide oversight to sub-sites for Lee Lab led multi-disciplinary studies.
  • Monitor and manage Lee Lab study activities. Provide updates on project progress including presenting study findings to a variety of audiences including Principal Investigator, study team members, steering committees, and other collaborators. Provide support in solving highly complex issues related to the study.
  • Provide human resource-related support to Principal Investigator including support with recruitment and hiring, training and development, and mentoring. Recommends and implements improvements and changes to policies and procedures. Provide oversight to sub-sites for Lee Lab led multi-disciplinary studies.
  • Provide finance-related support to the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Master's degree in health-related discipline (e.g. Nursing, epidemiology, health services research, etc.)
  • Experience in clinical research, particularly in conducting clinical trials, and quantitative data analysis is required
  • Proficient understanding of research methodologies, study protocols, and regulatory requirements (e.g. ethics, legal, financial, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and familiarity with ethical considerations in research. Tri-Council Policy Statement:
