Overview
Department of Family Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate, Medical Education. This full‑time fixed‑term position is for approximately 6 months, with possibility of extension.
Responsibilities- Under limited supervision, responsible for performing a range of research and coordination tasks in support of multiple projects
- Develops and adapts research protocols
- Coordinates and manages project meetings
- Leads the planning, implementation, and execution of research activities in collaboration with the project teams
- Perform literature reviews on medical education related topics using Pub Med or equivalent database
- Support ethics application development, submission and modifications
- Participate in development of survey tools by drafting questions based on literature
- Collecting data from study participants per study protocols; conduct virtual and in-person interviews
- Responsible for participant recruitment and all activities related to maintaining accurate records of participation and consents, delegating activities to other project team members as appropriate
- Provides project management related to implementation study activities, including development of timelines and oversight of project staff to ensure tasks are completed on time
- Provides expert advice and guidance to the project teams regarding evaluation and mixed‑methods research activities
- In‑scope supervision duties such as supervises research assistants and research students in completion of research activities, providing mentorship and training
- Ensures effective communication of research activities and outcomes within the large research teams and to diverse external stakeholders. Keeps research team well informed of changes related to research activities
- Responsible for submission of abstracts, writing papers, giving academic presentations at conferences or other knowledge translation opportunities, and preparing relevant sections of grant applications for the research projects
- Delivers engaging, informative, well‑organized presentations
- Minimum of Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Health Sciences, Social Sciences (e.g. medical sociology, medical anthropology, psychology), with formal research training
- Medical Education Research training considered a strong asset; understanding of Canadian medical education processes would be an asset
- 3‑5 years of related experience; a combination of education and experience will be considered
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Effective time and project management, organizational skills, supervisory skills, leadership skills, facilitation skills, personal initiative, and teamwork with a history of meeting commitments and deadlines
- Experience writing ethics protocols, development of data collection forms, enrolment of participants, qualitative interviewing, ethnographic observations, qualitative analysis, and report generation required
- Experience presenting at research forums, and writing manuscripts for publication required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including educators, academics, senior leaders, and students
- Ability to work independently and problem solve in complex situations, and exercise judgement within established guidelines
- Results‑driven individual with a history of delivering high‑quality work
- A positive team player who is able to develop and foster strong working relationships as well as an ability to develop critical partnerships
- Knowledge of the University of Calgary processes and procedures is desirable
