Your Opportunity:
We are excited to offer a temporary, 1-year Nurse Practitioner position in Critical Care at South Health Campus designed for graduate Nurse Practitioners wishing to start a career in critical care. The role provides structured exposure to complex, high-acuity patients with emphasis on education, mentorship, and professional growth within the Department of Critical Care Medicine, Calgary. It is designed for learning and offers a protected orientation and residency period with strong mentorship from experienced Critical Care Nurse Practitioners and physicians.
A gradual increase in clinical responsibility and autonomy is provided, aligned with comfort and competency, within a collaborative environment focused on education and psychological safety.

Description:
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. You will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.

- Participate in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill patients under close supervision and mentorship.
- Provide a full range of comprehensive health services across the lifespan, integrating nursing and medical clinical skills.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe treatment; perform procedures as required to manage patient health needs.
- Apply advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to improve care quality and inform healthcare systems.
- Contribute to a collaborative interdisciplinary team with an emphasis on education, mentorship, and professional growth.
- Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master’s degree.
- Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
- Additional Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) with current licensure (or eligible for licensure).
- New graduate NPs with critical care RN experience encouraged to apply.
- Strong interest in pursuing advanced critical care knowledge and skills and pursuing a career in critical care.
- Demonstrated professionalism, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
