Cancer Care Alberta is currently looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our inpatient team at the new Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (AC). Reporting to the Manager of Hematology, the successful RN will provide acute medical care within the specialty program of Hematology, Oncology, Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant. This is a fast paced and rapidly changing acute care environment that provides both standard of care and new novel therapies.
The RN will leverage adaptability and critical thinking to thrive in this environment, collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and use proven communication and interpersonal skills to deliver comprehensive care within the specialty. The role also provides unique growth and leadership development opportunities, including preceptorship, clinical trials, and ongoing professional development to enhance patient care.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while ensuring their safety and well-being. You will use nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
- If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of recent acute care nursing experience (including new graduates with related practicum or preceptorship training in acute care).
- Central venous access devices (CVAD) certification and/or experience.
- Must be self-directed, exercise independent decision making, sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Must be physically able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and push, pull, and lift in order to provide all levels of patient care and assistance.
- Experience in Oncology.
- Experience in Hematology.
- Experience with Blood and Marrow Stem Cell infusions within the last 3 years.
- Chemotherapy certification.
- Experience with the care of neutropenic patients in the last 3 years.
- Connect Care (Epic) computer training, certification and/or experience.
