As the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will support Parks Foundation’s Programs team in coordinating volunteer builds for community‑led park projects across the city. This role provides hands‑on experience in volunteer management, project logistics, community engagement, and event support. You will work closely with community groups, corporate volunteers, and internal staff to ensure that volunteer‑supported projects are executed smoothly, meet funder requirements, and provide a meaningful and positive experience for all participants.

This Summer 2026 position offers the opportunity to gain practical skills in organizing and leading volunteer activities, engaging with diverse community members, and contributing to projects that enhance Calgary’s public spaces. The Community Engagement Coordinator will also assist with documenting project milestones, gathering feedback from community members, and supporting events that showcase the impact of these projects. Through this role, you will play an essential part in helping community groups bring their park visions to life while strengthening connections between Parks Foundation Calgary, volunteers, and the communities we serve.

As our Summer 2026 Community Engagement Coordinator, your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:

Volunteer Coordination & Communication
  • Serve as the primary contact for corporate and community volunteers supporting community‑led projects.
  • Liaise with project leaders to understand volunteer needs, schedules, and priorities.
  • Maintain volunteer roster, manage sign‑ups, confirmations, reminders, and pre‑installation communications.
  • Oversee on‑site volunteer check‑in, orientation, and respond to volunteer questions and needs.
  • Ensure volunteers feel welcomed, supported, and have a positive experience throughout the day.
  • Monitor for safety hazards, ensure volunteers complete waivers, distribute safety gear, and deliver prepared safety briefings.
  • Check‑in on volunteers, coordinate breaks, lunch/snack schedules, and appreciation activities.
  • Maintain attendance lists and track participation hours for reporting.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including documentation, communications, and scheduling.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Take photos and short videos to document project progress and support communications.
  • Note any on‑site issues, material shortages, or lessons learned.
  • Submit a brief summary report after each build day to support internal evaluation and reporting to funders.
Community & Event Engagement
  • Represent Parks Foundation Calgary positively on‑site at project locations, park openings, and community events.
  • Greet community members, partners, and donors, providing general project information and supporting engagement activities.
  • Assist project leads during donor or partner interactions, including tours, photos, or briefings.
  • Support community engagement initiatives, including on‑site activities, public outreach, and special campaigns.
  • Plan and execute surveys to gather feedback from community members, volunteers, and partners to measure project impact.
  • Build relationships with community members to encourage participation in programs and projects.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Programs teams to support events, including volunteer builds, setup, logistics, and coordination.
Other Duties
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture by supporting colleagues as needed.
  • Comply with all Parks Foundation Calgary policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the role:
  • Working to complete an undergraduate degree or post‑secondary certificate in a relevant field, or a recent graduate.
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative by nature.
