Your Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director of Employee Communications, the Employee Communications Team Lead supports a team of communications professionals who manage relationships with our FST (Functional Services Team) partners FST. This includes working with executive and business leadership to develop and implement internal communications strategies that support our FSTs and Stantec’s overall objectives in alignment with our strategic plan. This role focuses on reaching the hearts and minds of our employees with communication experiences that shift behaviours to support and drive long-term business strategy, while establishing and nurturing relationships with our partners.
You’ll work with the broader Employee Communications team to ensure the development of best practices, standards, and processes for effective internal communications that boost performance, enable effectiveness, and help enrich Stantec’s culture. You will also be responsible for defining success and associated measures for evaluations of our communications plans.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, dynamic, charismatic leader with at least 10 years of experience in large, global organizations with a multi fs-stakeholder environment. They possess deep expertise in communication and marketing strategy, operations, and tactics. As an outstanding communicator, the candidate builds strong, positive relationships across all levels of the institution and operates with confidence and composure, even under pressure.
This individual is decisive yet collaborative, fostering an open and inclusive approach to achieving goals in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. In addition, the role leads a temples of eight professionals, providing mentorship and development opportunities to ensure high performance and engagement.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Alignment
Understand Stantec’s operating model and strategic plan to guide decisions and shape communications strategies.
Develop and maintain the overarching FST communications strategy in alignment with organizational and employee communication goals.
Build and sustain strong relationships with executive leadership and senior leaders, adapting communication approaches to suit different leadership styles and needs.
Contribute to the evolution of the Employee Communications team by influencing and improving its strategic direction.
Collaborate closely with other members of the communications team (editorial, digital, global) team to ensure content is timely, purposeful and brand‑aligned.
Ensure consistent use of Stantec’s brand and voice across all communications platforms.
Lead individual projects and work streams within large strategic communications initiatives, including audience analysis, message development, channel strategy, and performance evaluation.
Plan and manage diverse and conflicting workload pressures, ensuring tasks are prioritized and completed within time and budget constraints.
Serve as a hands‑on, go‑to resource for senior communications counsel to the Employee Communications FST team and partners.
Lead, coach, and mentor a high‑performing communications team, including performance and succession planning.
Inspire individuals to deliver their best work.
Foster a culture of trust, empowerment, and proactive problem‑solving.section
