Fabrication Supervisor Job Description

The Spooling Supervisor oversees daily department operations while reporting to operations managers, ensuring work follows technical drawings and meets project schedules while coordinating closely with Production teams. They manage labor, materials, and equipment to maintain efficient workflow and ensure required parts are ready for installation. The role provides leadership through mentoring, performance management, and collaboration with Engineering, QC, Safety, and other departments.

They also maintain a safe work environment by completing hazard assessments and actively participating in safety and quality programs.

• Oversee daily operations of the spooling department.
• Ensure compliance with technical drawings and project schedules.
• Coordinate closely with Production teams to manage labor, materials, and equipment.
• Maintain efficient workflow and readiness of parts for installation.
• Provide leadership through mentoring and performance management.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Control, and Safety departments.
• Conduct hazard assessments and participate in safety and quality programs.

• 5+ years of spooling production experience, ideally in Oil & Gas (compression/process packages).
• Ability to read and interpret red‑line markups and blueprints (Isometrics, P&IDs, G.A.’s).
• Knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulation & Code relevant to the industry.
• Strong understanding of assembly, fabrication, production processes, and quality control.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
• Supervisory experience in a spooling department.

• Journeyman Pipefitter or Journeyman Welder with B Pressure Ticket.
• Ability to be on tools when needed.
• Field experience is an asset.
• Possession of safety tickets (e.g., zoom boom, 1st aid) is advantageous.

Located in the SE industrial area, close to the Quarry Park shopping sector, the shop is known for its work in compression and process piping for oil and gas applications. The shift is Monday to Thursday, 4x10s, from 5:50 am to 4:30 pm, with an averaging agreement in place. Overtime is available.
