Reporting to the Board Chair and working closely with the Board of Directors, the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and organizational stewardship. This role is accountable for ensuring the organization’s sustainability, financial health, and alignment with its mission, while fostering strong relationships with staff, families, funders, and the broader community.

The interim CEO will oversee day‑to‑day operations, lead and develop staff, support effective governance, and represent the organization externally. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring both strategic vision and operational execution.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and monitor the organization’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board by identifying internal and external trends, risks, and opportunities impacting the organization.
  • Foster strong, transparent, and effective relationships between the Board of Directors, staff, families, funders, and community partners.
  • Represent the organization at community events and external meetings to enhance visibility, credibility, and partnerships.
  • Lead, mentor, and support staff by clearly defining roles, setting performance expectations, and promoting collaboration and engagement.
  • Implement and oversee a comprehensive performance management process, including ongoing feedback and annual performance reviews.
  • Identify training and professional development opportunities to support staff growth and organizational capacity.
  • Oversee sound financial management practices, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and risk management.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Provide accurate, timely, and meaningful financial reports and analysis to support informed decision‑making.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements applicable to the organization.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of programs and services to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Develop, review, and recommend organizational policies and procedures for Board approval and ongoing governance.
  • Ensure effective human resources practices are in place, including staffing, organizational structure, and policy implementation.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, finance, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or an accounting designation is considered an asset.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated understanding of non‑profit governance, regulatory compliance, and ethical leadership practices.
