The Role

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Portfolio Management, the Director Portfolio Management will be responsible for leading a team of Associate Directors and Associates in ATB Business Banking Real Estate. The Director will oversee the ATB Business Real Estate Credit Portfolio and coordinate the development of procedures and processes with a focus on maintaining a high quality risk culture and delivering for our clients at ATB.

The Director will play an essential role as a leader in the hiring, development and training of ATB Associate Directors and Associates and will be expected to provide feedback and recommendations. Training and sharing of information amongst ATB teammates and other areas of the bank will be emphasized with promotion of best practices and coordination with other underwriting groups within ATB.

With strong experience in the Real Estate industry and commercial lending, you will use this knowledge to ensure proper credit presentation and structuring of transactions. You will be a key asset on delivering on overall ATB Business sales objectives, while maintaining adequate risk oversight and management of the portfolio.

Accountabilities
  • Contribute to ATB Business’ market presence through effective management and development of Associate Directors and Associates.
  • Review processes and procedures used in the underwriting of mid‑market to large commercial / corporate clients.
  • Active participation and coordination with real estate sales teams on delivering high quality underwriting and advisory services.
  • Coordinate multiple activities and projects with the management of team members.
  • Engage with a variety of internal partners (Credit, Risk, Sales Support, Data, Sales) to enhance ATB Business Banking brand and products.
  • Responsible for the overall hiring, training and development of team members; assist current team members work towards their desired career goals.
  • Engage with external partners where necessary to enhance knowledge and training available to Associate Directors and Associates.
  • Assist in identifying any weaknesses within the Portfolio Managed credit writing process and establish action plans to increase overall efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Stand‑up and lead projects related to addressing and improving credit underwriting.
  • Maintain appropriate oversight of the Associate Directors in respect to credit underwriting, use of appropriate tools and resources, reporting and covenants and expiry management.
  • Assist Associate Directors with guidance and coaching related to complex transactions.
  • Stay current on best industry practices and be a subject matter expert for your team.
  • Ensure appropriate coverage for teammates while on vacations and or temporary assignments within ATB.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
  • Experience in the Corporate/Commercial banking environment either in an underwriting, credit or sales capacity, with exposure to Real Estate industry.
  • Prior leadership experience leading individual contributors considered an asset.
  • 5+ years in a corporate banking / credit environment.
  • 3+ years of customer relationship management.
  • Exposure to multiple lines of business and multiple industries.
  • Strong understanding of effective risk culture and ability to lead a team.
  • High degree of collaboration skills to partner with multiple stakeholders.
  • Bachelor of Business or similar.
  • MBA, CFA or CPA designation considered an asset.
