The Promotion Committee is a year‑round volunteer committee dedicated to showcasing the Calgary Stampede throughout Calgary and surrounding communities. The committee supports a wide range of not‑for‑profit events including rodeos, military ceremonies, and community celebrations by providing a fully equipped stage at no cost, helping ensure the success of each event.
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic volunteer to join the Promotion Committee as a Class 1 Volunteer Driver with the Community Stage Subcommittee. This role is responsible for the safe transportation, mobilization, and demobilization of the Calgary Stampede tractor‑trailer stage units to and from event locations. The Class 1 Volunteer Driver will oversee the set‑up and tear‑down of the stage and associated equipment, ensuring all components are installed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with operational standards.
Working closely with event coordinators and on‑site personnel, this individual will play a key‑role in delivering seamless, professional event experiences throughout Calgary and surrounding communities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Inspect tractor‑trailer units before and after each event to ensure they are roadworthy and fully functional, reporting any issues to the appropriate parties
- Verify that all required safety equipment is on board and ensure all documentation (pre‑trip inspections, logbooks/ELD) are complete and accurate
- Safely drive tractor‑trailer units to and from event locations, maintaining professional conduct and compliance with all road safety regulations
- Refuel the tractor and stage‑mounted generator as needed, using the provided payment methods
- Maintain cleanliness of the tractor, trailer exteriors, and stage interior, assisting with general upkeep as required
- Perform minor mechanical maintenance on tractor and trailer units to ensure reliable operation
- Assist with the set‑up and tear‑down of the stage and associated Calgary Stampede equipment at events
- Operate the generator during events, ensuring continuous functionality and performing pre‑ and post‑event checks
- Support audio technicians and other team members to facilitate smooth, professional event execution
- Uphold the security and safety of the tractor‑trailer units and ensure the safety of all personnel and attendees around the stage
- Clean driver’s abstract demonstrating a strong safety record
- Proven experience operating tractor‑trailer units in a safe, courteous, and professional manner
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Strong collaborator with a positive, flexible attitude and the ability to adapt in dynamic, event‑based environments
- Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety at all times
- Availability from March through December, aligned with the Community Stage operating season. We recognize that work, family, and personal commitments come first and strive to provide flexibility whenever possible
- Attend a minimum of 3 out of 4 annual Promotion Committee general meetings
- Attend a minimum of 2 out of 3 Community Stage Team meetings annually
- Participate in required Community Stage training sessions and spring preparation activities to ensure operational readiness
