Who We Are

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview

Under the direction of the Streetcar Lead Motorman, the Streetcar Motorman operates the electric streetcar at Heritage Park.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome guests to Heritage Park, provide information about daily activities and attractions
  • Operate the streetcar safely and responsibly, in accordance with the Alberta Rail Safety Streetcar Guidelines, and adhere to specified arrival and departure schedules
  • Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking the streetcar, ensuring passengers adhere to General Operating Instructions while on route enabling an enjoyable experience
  • Respond to emergencies calmly and efficiently, such as dealing with unexpected breakdowns or accidents, prioritizing passenger safety and ensuring emergency procedures are followed
  • Conduct daily pre-trip inspections on the streetcar and basic track inspections, reporting damage and unsafe conditions and ensuring that any problems are addressed promptly
  • Engage guests in conversations about the rich history of streetcars in Western Canada
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors with a customer-focused approach, providing courteous and friendly customer service and information to enhance the overall visitor experience
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy
  • Actively support a positive work environment through creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
  • Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in customer service roles and mechanical aptitude to handle minor troubleshooting and operate an antique electric streetcar is preferred
  • Previous experience as a streetcar conductor or motorman is required
  • Satisfactory completion of a medical exam for a Class 5 driver’s license is required
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required
  • Must learn the Alberta Rail Safety Rules and pass a written test
  • Must be able to learn how to inspect and operate the electric streetcar safely
  • Must be able to familiarise oneself with Heritage Park Streetcar General Operating Rules, General Operating Instructions, Safety Management System and Alberta Rail Safety Streetcar Guidelines
  • Must pass a first aid course and fire extinguisher course supplied by Heritage Park
  • Must be able to familiarise oneself with accident injury reporting as required by Heritage Park as well as Alberta Transportation
  • Problem identification and solving, as well as organizational skills are required
  • Good English language proficiency is required for effective communication, both verbally and in writing, to interact with park visitors to provide clear and helpful information
