Position: Data Governance Coordinator | Coordonnateur(-trice) de la gouvernance des données

We are currently seeking a Data Governance Coordinator to provide data governance support in connection with the firm’s Data Governance Strategy and accompanying technology. The successful candidate will support the investigation, development, maintenance and implementation of the Data Governance Framework.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Knowledge Services, the Data Governance Coordinator plays a pivotal role in defining data governance across the firm while creating and maintaining frameworks, standards, policies, artifacts, and procedures to support this. Passionate about data governance and data quality, the candidate must have a good understanding of data analysis, data quality, data movement, business glossary, metadata, and data modeling.

The Data Governance Coordinator will work closely with stakeholders from business units throughout Fasken, the Data Management Team, data domain owners and relevant third parties to support the data governance implementation. This will include conducting data management assessments and identifying pain points and gaps for capabilities including data quality, data privacy, data integrity, data retention, compliance with regulations and other data policies and contribute to building the future state of both data governance strategy and its roadmap.

This will also cover the responsibility to execute the identified data governance initiatives ensuring that the right processes and roles/responsibilities are defined and enforced.

The Data Governance Coordinator will be a member of the cross functional Data Management Team and will be responsible for engaging with them, systems owners and business users to ensure that data quality requirements are defined, documented and translated into effective and consistent processes that improve the quality of data.

  • Primary Responsibilities

  • Document the data discovery process to identify key data domains that support business objectives
  • Document, manage and maintain business and technical metadata repositories (data dictionary, data catalog, business glossary), document existing data classification processes (identification of sensitive data) and data issues in processes for associated projects
  • Understand how data flows internally through collaboration with data owners to support data governance
  • Develop and maintain key data governance documentation, user guides, and other necessary training documents and support the implementation and maintenance of data policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the development of the data governance policy, strategy and processes for the firm
  • Maintain the Data Governance Framework and work with various business groups to coordinate and document data management processes and data governance policies to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards
