Position: Senior Power BI Specialist (Development and Administration)

Power BI Development & Visualization

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models that support decision-making across executive, management, and operational teams.
  • Translate complex datasets into clear, intuitive, and interactive visualizations that highlight trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, and deliver reporting solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Apply best practices in DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling to ensure high performance, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Support storytelling with data, ensuring dashboards are insightful, user-friendly, and aligned with business goals.
  • Collaborate with business partners to understand priorities, define KPIs, and deliver insights that inform decision-making and drive measurable business outcomes
  • Power BI Administration & Governance

  • Manage and administer the Power BI tenant, including workspaces, capacities, licenses, gateways, and user provisioning.
  • Implement governance, security, and compliance standards across Power BI to ensure alignment with enterprise policies.
  • Monitor usage, adoption, and system performance, identifying opportunities to optimize efficiency and reliability.
  • Leverage automation (Power Shell, Python, REST APIs, or Dev Ops pipelines) to streamline Power BI administration, workspace provisioning, dataset refresh monitoring, and user/license management.
  • Contribute to deployment automation and version control for Power BI assets to ensure consistent and governed delivery.
  • Support ongoing governance initiatives as Western expands its Power BI adoption enterprise-wide.
  • Collaboration & Enablement

  • Partner with Data Engineering and Cloud teams to ensure seamless integration of Power BI with enterprise data platforms including Snowflake and Databricks SQL.
  • Support the rollout of self-service BI, including training business users, defining roles and permissions, and ensuring responsible adoption.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and mentoring to both business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Stay up to date with new Power BI features and industry best practices, proactively recommending enhancements to improve adoption and scalability.
  • Support the rollout of self-service BI capabilities, ensuring appropriate governance and quality controls are in place.
  • Help strengthen BI delivery resilience and reduce dependency on key individuals through automation and knowledge sharing.

  • Proven professional experience with Power BI, including advanced dashboard and report development in enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with Power BI administration, including tenant management, capacity planning, governance, and security.
  • Advanced knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M), data modeling, and performance tuning.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, data governance, and cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks SQL.
  • Experience with automation and scripting for Power BI administration and deployments (Power Shell, Python, REST APIs, Azure Dev Ops).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; able to work effectively with both technical teams and business leaders.
  • Proven ability to work in a cloud-first environment and contribute to ongoing modernization initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of how BI and analytics drive business growth, with a passion for enabling data-informed decision-making.
