Our client is looking for a Senior Business Analyst with a background in Data Analytics to elicit, analyze and validate business needs for data and analytics initiatives for a utilities client
** This is a hybrid role in Edmonton or Calgary**
Must haves:
7+ years experience as a Business Analyst delivering data centric initiatives and analytical projectsTranslating business questions into data requirements and measurable product outcomes.Shaping backlogs for data platforms/data Lakehouse features and analytics use cases.Defining user stories and acceptance criteria for data pipelines, models, semantic layers, dashboards, and self‑service analytics.Partnering with Data Architects and Data Engineers on solution design (data modeling, integration patterns, data quality, governance).Leading or supporting UAT focused on data accuracy, performance, and reliability of analytical products.Documenting processes, lineage, and product artifacts so stakeholders can trust and use the insightsShaping backlogs for data platforms/data lakehouse features and analytics use cases.Defining user stories and acceptance criteria for data pipelines, models, semantic layers, dashboards, and self‑service analytics.Nice to haves:
Certification in business analysis (e.g., CBAP, CCBA).Key Responsibilities:
Partnering with Data Architects and Data Engineers on solution design (data modeling, integration patterns, data quality, governance).Leading or supporting UAT focused on data accuracy, performance, and reliability of analytical products.Documenting processes, lineage, and product artifacts so stakeholders can trust and use the insights.Collaborate with project sponsors to determine project scope and vision.Clearly identify project stakeholders and establish user classes, as well as their characteristics.Conduct interviews to gather user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods.Identify and establish scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.Work with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements.Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes.Collaborate with Data architects and Engineers to document the proposed solutions to meet business needs.Create and maintain documentation for data and analytics solutions, products and processes.Develop and utilize standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirements specifications.Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team.Develop and conduct peer reviews of the business requirements to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted.Assist with the interpretation of user requirements into feasible options and communicating these back to the business stakeholders.Manage and track the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforce and redefine as necessary.Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements– verbally or through written documentation – to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood.Provide guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members
