Position: Manager, Payroll and Compensation

We are looking for an experienced payroll and total rewards professional who is energized by meaningful work and thrives in a dynamic, people-focused environment. This leadership role oversees payroll operations, compensation, benefits, and HRIS administration for a large, diverse employee group in Calgary.

This is the ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys improving processes, guiding others, and serving as the subject matter expert for payroll and total rewards.

About the Role

In this position, you will lead the full payroll function, ensure successful delivery of compensation and benefits programs, and support the optimization of our HR systems. You will work closely with a supportive and collaborative HR leader who values autonomy, integrity, and thoughtful decision‑making.

You will also directly supervise a payroll and benefits team member, providing coaching, clarity, and steady guidance.

Job Duties
  • Manage end-to-end payroll for employees across various roles and schedules
  • Ensure all pay cycles meet accuracy, timing, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain strong controls and identify opportunities to streamline workflows
  • Support annual payroll activities such as reporting and year-end deliverables
  • Troubleshoot and optimize HRIS/payroll functionality (
    experience with Dayforce is a significant asset
    )
  • Oversee the delivery of compensation structures, benefits administration, vacation, and leave programs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of total rewards offerings and recommend enhancement.
  • Conduct job reviews and support compensation planning and budgeting
  • Supervise and coach a team of payroll professionals.
Qualifications
  • 5–8+ years of experience in payroll, compensation, and benefits
  • Previous team leadership or supervision experience
  • Strong understanding of employment standards, payroll compliance, and reporting
  • Hands‑on experience using a modern HRIS;
    Dayforce experience is highly valued
  • A genuine interest in community‑focused or mission‑driven work; exposure to nonprofit environments is a plus
