Position Summary:

Having a deep understanding of the complexities of eating disorders and provide individualized nutrition counseling to our clients and their families, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for developing and leading group nutrition education sessions, as well as collaborating with the treatment team to create individualized meal plans. The registered dietitian will be responsible for conducting regular assessments of patients’ progress and modifying treatment plans as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive nutritional assessments with clients and their families, including diet histories, obtaining historical growth chart data from primary care doctors, and determining healthy weight range for clients; along with assessing clients/family members relationships to food, body, movement in appropriate ways.
  • Work with clients one-on-one to assess their eating disorder and develop a personalized treatment plan
  • Work with parents and caregivers to provide nutritional psychoeducation and support
  • Educate clients on the importance of nutrition for their physical and mental health
  • Facilitate nutrition education groups
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
  • Collaborate with other members of the treatment team, such as therapists, nursing staff, physicians etc.; monitoring treatment progress and evaluating treatment outcomes especially regarding the nutritional component of care.
  • Work in collaboration with the kitchen manager and head cook to ensure successful execution of menu planning
  • Ensures ongoing nutritional care by maintaining complete and accurate client records, assessment notes and required correspondence, and by monitoring client progress on a regular basis.
  • Help clients develop healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with stress and triggers
  • Promote body positivity and self-acceptance
  • Help clients overcome their fears around food and eating
  • Assist clients in developing meal plans that meet their nutritional needs
  • Support transition planning, including to the home environment and to alternate levels of care within the system.
  • Stay updated on the latest nutritional research and trends
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development activities and maintaining registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta.
  • Be a regular participant in meal support
  • Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Registered dietitian (RD) qualification
  • Knowledge of eating disorder etiology
  • Preferred 2+ years of experience working with clients in a mental health setting, experience with eating disorders in inpatient or outpatient settings and experience working in adolescents and young adults considered an asset.
  • Experience leading groups and facilitating individual assessments considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, including but not limited to family-based therapy (FBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • This position is on site in Alberta
