The opportunity

Ernst & Young's Financial Restructuring group is the market leading financial advisor in corporate restructurings in Canada. This group works with financially troubled companies and their stakeholders to provide management and stakeholders with solutions to maximize value. Our roles may include the following:

  • Act as a strategic financial advisor to senior management and boards of directors.
  • Analysis of a company’s current financial situation and strategic alternatives.
  • Performance of viability assessments of companies and recommend solutions.
  • Assistance in the development of business plans to support restructuring initiatives.
  • Provision of advice to creditors in the enforcement of their rights.
  • Act as monitor in the context of CCAA filings, or as receiver and manager or trustee in bankruptcy as circumstances dictate.
Your key responsibilities

We are seeking a candidate with strong bookkeeping and organizational skills to support our Financial Restructuring team.

  • Supervise the administration of estate trust accounting records, including preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and statements of receipts & disbursements.
  • Preparing cheques and making deposits for estate trust accounts.
  • Preparing and filing GST returns.
  • Management of estate records, including filing and administration of off-site storage.
  • Managing creditor mailings and coordinating the receipt and review of creditor claims.

The Paraprofessional will also provide support to the restructuring team through such activities as:

  • Responding to the enquiries of creditors, regulators and other stakeholders in the insolvency and restructuring process.
  • Liaising with banks, utilities, insurers, landlords and other service providers in connection with the execution of engagement files.
  • Assisting professional staff with taking possession and/or on-site insolvency activities to the extent required.
  • Supervise project work prepared by more junior professionals, providing feedback and guidance on quality outputs.
  • Plan and conduct team meetings that foster open participation and focus on specification outcomes.
Skills and attributes for success
  • Strong skills with related experience in bookkeeping and basic accounting.
  • Superior skills in multi-tasking.
  • Strong organizational skills required to prioritize and manage work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
