About the RoleWe are looking for a Trade Controls Analyst to join our Commodity Risk Management team within Trans Alta’s Treasury and Risk Management unit. The role supports the critical “license to trade” functions for our commodity trade floor and asset optimization operations.
This mid‑office position works cross‑functionally with front, mid, and back‑office teams—traders, trading support, finance, settlements, and IT—to ensure secure and efficient trading operations. Responsibilities include managing access to internal and external trading platforms, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting trade controls to uphold compliance and operational integrity.
The role is based in Calgary head office. It is a full‑time, office‑based role with a hybrid work schedule.
Day in the Life- Collaborate & communicate across business units and industry stakeholders.
- Manage user access and authorizations on external trade‑related platforms, including user access rights, certificates, and IP whitelisting.
- Configure, monitor, and manage employee access to segregated functions within internal trading systems.
- Maintain high‑level sensitive access; require strong attention to detail.
- Monitor, investigate, and report trade authority violations, trade unlocks, and voids; generate monthly & quarterly reports and recommend process improvements.
- Investigate segregation of duty violations among front, mid, and back office.
- Work with internal and external audit on trading control walk‑throughs and evidence requests.
- Continuously improve established processes, systems, and structures.
- University degree or college diploma.
- 3+ years of work experience, preferably in a trading controls environment with tradable commodities and associated systems.
- Knowledge of independent system operator (ISO) client portals and experience with Energy Trading & Risk Management Systems (ETRMS) is an asset.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and time‑management skills with ability to prioritize and triage tasks.
- Proactive, analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to work independently and to take initiative.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; database and Power
BI skills are an asset.
