About this opportunity
The Property Tax Analyst will support the effective management of property tax obligations through analysis, coordination, and stakeholder engagement. This role contributes to accurate reporting, informed decision-making, and compliance across a diverse asset portfolio. The analyst will work closely with internal teams and external partners in a dynamic environment that requires strong analytical skills, adaptability, and attention to detail.
What you’ll do- Review property tax assessments, analyze variances against prior years, and prepare and file assessment appeals where appropriate.
- Manage the annual property tax cycle, from receipt of tax notices through validation, appeal, and payment.
- Analyze data to identify trends, discrepancies, and optimization opportunities.
- Support the Request for Information (RFI) process by coordinating with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and assessment authorities.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries related to audits, budgeting, forecasting, future projects, acquisitions and divestitures (A&D), and joint venture disputes.
- Provide guidance and recommendations related to asset inventory and property classification.
- Represent Cenovus in industry associations and committees such as CAPP and CPTA.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with applicable property tax legislation and deadlines.
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data analytics, accounting, or related financial roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent field.
- Prior experience with property tax, accounting or analysis would be considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel or equivalent data analysis tools.
- Comfortable working in complex, ambiguous environments with competing priorities.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
