Position: Student, Real Estate Financial Operations (Summer 2026)

Student, Real Estate Financial Operations (Summer 2026)

The Domestic and Foreign Real Estate Financial Operations (REFO) teams are each seeking one summer student to join their teams. The REFO group is responsible for the collection and reporting of property level financial results and the financial statement consolidation activities of AIMCo’s Real Estate investment holding vehicles. As the successful Student, Real Estate Financial Operations you will learn about the functions of a high performing team and will assist the team in delivering on their objectives.

Playing an important role, you will contribute to the broader Real Estate Financial Operations by applying accounting principles and analyzing financial data by assisting Senior Accountants with the collection of property data from the external managers on a quarterly basis. Additionally, you will gain in-depth experience using the Yardi Voyager accounting system where you will review, validate, and reconcile AIMCo investment records and property financial statements.

Responsibilities
  • Applying accounting principles and analyzing accounting information
  • Performing bank and various investment reconciliations and ad-hoc accounting functions
  • Supporting the Accountants / Senior Accountants and Accounts Payable Analyst in the processing of investment management transactions and invoice payments in Yardi Voyager
  • Loading and validating accounting trial balances in Yardi Voyager, Sim Corp Dimension, eFront and Aladdin
  • Assisting in the execution of projects under the direction of the Senior Manager, Real Estate Accounting
Qualifications
  • In pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Management, Information Systems, or another related field
  • Post-graduation plans to enroll in a professional accounting designation program is advantageous
  • Previous bookkeeping and / or accounting experience is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Canadian GAAP (ASPE) are an asset
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, prepare financial reports, draw conclusions, and make recommendations based on information presented.
  • Highly proficient with MS Applications and ability to quickly adapt to various software applications
  • Strong understanding of finance, accounting, and business concepts
  • Exceptional research, analytical and problem‑solving abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Thrives under pressure and enjoys contributing to team goals

Success Measures

You will become confident in taking over some of the daily tasks of the Accountants or Accounts Payable Analyst and collaborate with and assist the Senior Accountants with property level accounting. You will gain a large network of connections with the relationships you have built with our talented employees.
