Position Summary

The Event Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting, reviewing, and implementing event safety plans and initiatives to ensure the safety of the public and effective crowd management at events on Stampede Park. This role collaborates with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to assess risk, review site layouts, conduct inspections, and provide guidance on safety compliance.

This role plays a key part in Stampede‑time operations by actively monitoring event spaces, supporting incident response, and contributing to the safe execution of entertainment activations and large public gatherings. The Event Safety Specialist reports to the Manager, Public Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of event safety plans and risk assessments.
  • Review event layouts and ensure compliance with fire code, crowd management principles, and safety regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections and walkthroughs before and during events; collaborate with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Monitor event spaces, identify emerging safety risks, and assist with incident response and corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams and event organizers on safety expectations and requirements.
  • Support Stampede‑time operations, including crowd management oversight and safety compliance monitoring.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of safety processes, tools, and procedures.
  • Lead or support special projects as assigned.
  • Seasonal Stampede Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support operational safety planning and execution for all Stampede‑time activities.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of Stampede Park event spaces to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Provide safety oversight for entertainment activations, installations, and high‑volume event areas.
  • Assist with enhanced crowd management operations during peak attendance periods.
  • Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Certifications such as Event Management Certificate, Health & Safety Advisor (HSA), or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in event operations, public safety, crowd management, or safety‑related roles including crowd management planning and execution, event risk assessment, site design review
  • Knowledge of fireworks regulations is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Strong understanding of crowd dynamics and public safety principles.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
