The Role

As a Municipal Designer, you will act as a technical project lead delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Alberta. You will play a key role in design oversight, mentorship, QA/QC, and contract administration while contributing to proposal development and multidisciplinary coordination.

Key Responsibilities Municipal Engineering
  • Lead planning, hydraulic modelling, analysis, and design of municipal water and wastewater systems
  • Deliver rehabilitation and renewal projects
  • Review and oversee water and wastewater design drawings
  • Conduct constructability reviews
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of junior staff deliverables
  • Lead cost estimation and validate design assumptions
  • Prepare and review technical reports and regulatory documentation
Project Delivery
  • Provide technical input into proposals
  • Ensure quality control across drawings and reports
  • Oversee procurement documentation, specifications, and tender coordination
  • Provide senior-level contract administration including:
    • Contractor submittal reviews
    • Progress claim evaluations
    • Interpretation of contract documents
Example Projects
  • Water and wastewater pump stations
  • Force mains (new and rehabilitation)
  • Major pipeline upgrades
  • Regional water and wastewater systems
  • Urban and rural utility rehabilitation
  • Flood mitigation projects (berm design, regrading)
  • Multidisciplinary roadway and municipal infrastructure projects
Qualifications Required
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation (or eligible for registration in Alberta)
  • 8–10+ years of experience in municipal water and wastewater design
  • Experience in water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Design coordination experience (internal and external stakeholders)
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, drawings, submittals, and progress claims
  • Client engagement experience
  • Proven mentorship experience
Asset
  • Project coordination or project management experience
  • Utility coordination
  • Construction field experience
