The Opportunity
Build the Future with Us
Join our Ground Engineering team in Calgary or Edmonton, where your expertise will directly support safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure across Alberta. From geohazard risk reduction to major infrastructure and mining projects, you’ll shape solutions that protect communities and fuel long‑term environmental stewardship.
This is your chance to lead and contribute to technically rich projects across diverse terrain — from remote field sites to urban centers — and advance your geotechnical career with a team that values curiosity, collaboration, and innovation.
Your Impact
You will make a meaningful difference by:
Designing and delivering geotechnical solutions that support safe foundations, transportation corridors, slope stabilization, and mining infrastructure across Alberta.
Planning, leading, and executing geotechnical and geo‑environmental field investigations — from drilling oversight to site characterization — and translating findings into sound engineering decisions.
Producing clear, data‑driven technical reports that influence major project decisions and help clients mitigate geotechnical risk.
Applying advanced analysis and modelling (e.g., slope stability, settlement, seepage) to support high‑quality design outcomes.
Managing projects of varying complexity, providing direction, mentorship, and quality oversight to junior engineers and technologists.
Collaborating with teams in other WSP offices to expand expertise, contribute to complex multi‑disciplinary projects, and support a culture of continuous learning.
Supporting construction through field reviews, technical recommendations, and practical problem solving.
Growing your expertise through training, professional development, and hands‑on coaching from senior geotechnical leaders.
The Skills That Set You Apart
You hold a bachelor’s degree in Civil (Geotechnical) or Geological Engineering, and you may also bring a Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering — a strong asset.
You’re registered, or eligible to register, as a P.Eng. with APEGA, and you bring 4+ years of hands‑on geotechnical engineering experience in consulting or equivalent project environments.
You have real‑world experience in areas such as slope stability, foundations, dam/tailings design, geohazard assessment, or mining geotechnics.
You write clear, concise technical reports and proposals, and you thrive in client‑facing environments where practical, solutions‑focused communication matters.
You bring leadership qualities grounded in mentorship, collaboration, and a desire to support the growth of others.
You meet safety and fieldwork requirements, including holding an unrestricted Class 5 Alberta driver’s license, and you’re comfortable working in various outdoor conditions.
You’re driven by technical excellence, continuous growth, and doing work that matters to communities and the environment.
