Erosion Control Central Ltd. (ECC) is a leading provider of integrated erosion and sediment control services across Western Canada. We operate as a one‑stop shop for erosion and sediment control, offering construction, inspection, and design services to developers, municipalities, and engineering consultants. Our mission is to protect the environment, support clean communities, and help our clients deliver projects on schedule.

As our Design group continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced Director of Technical Services to lead and grow this critical part of our organization.

Position Overview
The Director of Technical Services will provide leadership, technical oversight, and strategic direction to ECC’s Design group. This role combines technical expertise in erosion and sediment control design with team leadership, relationship development, and financial accountability. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing design staff, project oversight, strengthening and expanding client relationships, and driving sustainable growth within the division.

Key Responsibilities
Division Leadership and Team Development

Lead and manage the Design group, including engineers, designers, and technologists.

Establish clear role definitions, performance expectations, and career progression pathways for team members.

Develop and implement a framework to support long‑term employee growth.

Conduct performance reviews, mentor staff, and foster a culture of accountability and professional development.

Recruit and onboard additional design talent as required to support growth.

Technical Oversight and Professional Supervision

Provide senior‑level technical review and oversight of ESC Plans, reports, and ECO Plans.

Ensure compliance with applicable municipal, provincial, and regulatory requirements.

Act as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) under whom junior designers may work toward professional development and licensing requirements.

Standardize design processes, templates, and quality control procedures.

Promote continuous improvement in technical standards and delivery efficiency.

Client Development and Industry Engagement

Build and maintain strong working relationships with engineering consultants, land development managers, and related industry professionals.

Proactively pursue overflow and capacity‑support opportunities with consulting firms to help their clients maintain construction schedules.

Identify opportunities to expand ECC’s technical service offerings within existing and new client accounts and markets.

Represent ECC professionally within industry forums and stakeholder meetings.

Project and Financial Management

Oversee design project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.

Monitor project performance against quoted targets and financial objectives.

Establish and track divisional key performance indicators, including utilization, margins, and revenue targets.

Support accurate scoping, pricing, and forecasting of new opportunities.

Coordinate closely with the Construction and Inspection group to ensure integrated service delivery.

Strategic Contribution

Contribute to the long‑term growth strategy of ECC’s Design group.

Assist in identifying new service offerings aligned with client demand and market opportunity.

Support scalability through improved systems, workflow optimization, and resource planning.

Provide input into organizational planning and operational strategy as part of ECC’s leadership team.

Qualifications

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta is required.

Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in erosion and sediment control design, land development, or environmental engineering.

Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring technical staff.

Strong understanding of ESC regulations, best practices, and construction sequencing.

Established professional network within Alberta’s development and consulting community is considered an asset.

Strong communication skills and comfort in client‑facing and business development activities.

Experience working with regulatory permitting processes along with a general understanding of construction practices.
