Within our Underground Services Practice
, we are seeking a Project Engineer in Calgary, AB. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 7 years of experience on major infrastructure or transit projects and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve.

Annual Compensation

$76,000 – $135,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Project Engineer Essential Functions
  • Participate in the coordination and delivery of design packages, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, cost targets, and schedule commitments while maintaining alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Review design submissions from consultants and contractors, providing constructive feedback, identifying risks, and ensuring adherence to applicable standards and specifications.
  • Contribute to the design change process by evaluating proposed modifications, assessing their impact on cost and schedule, and preparing recommendations for City approval.
  • Support procurement activities by reviewing and maintaining procurement documentation, including technical specifications, RFP packages, and evaluation criteria, ensuring clarity and completeness for competitive bidding.
  • Validate contractor progress claims and payment applications by verifying quantities, progress, and compliance with contractual obligations before recommending approval.
  • Monitor construction progress and performance, identifying deviations from schedule or budget and recommending corrective actions to maintain project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements by conducting audits, reviewing reports, and escalating non-conformances for resolution.
  • Facilitate interface coordination between civil works, track, systems, and rolling stock supplier, ensuring seamless integration and resolving technical conflicts across disciplines.
  • Support safety and security certification processes by ensuring all documentation and evidence is prepared for independent assessment and regulatory approval.
  • Participate in dispute and claim management processes by preparing technical assessments and supporting negotiations to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Ensure accurate and timely project reporting, including progress updates, performance metrics, and compliance with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Coordinate commissioning and handover activities, ensuring all documentation, certifications, and as-built records are complete for final acceptance.

Education PROJECT ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, systems, or civil engineering or a related discipline.
Qualifications
  • 3–7 years of experience in engineering or construction management, preferably in transit or infrastructure projects.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian engineering codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro Station, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with LRT or other rail/transit infrastructure projects, ideally including MSF facilities.
  • Experience working in an Owner's Representative or Construction Management role, collaborating directly with the client to deliver large capital projects.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary interfaces and support testing and commissioning activities.
