Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mill Manager to oversee milling operations at our Keno Hill mine. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mill Manager will manage the milling process, metallurgy, assay lab, and expansion/growth of the mill to accommodate future throughput. This role ensures the safe, efficient extraction of silver, effective facility maintenance, and adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.

A strong background in metallurgy, mineral processing, and leadership in mining is required.

About Us

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory, is one of the highest‑grade silver districts in the world. It is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na‑Cho Nyak Dun, and covers 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and over 35 historical past‑producing mine sites. The mine is expected to produce ~3.0 million ounces of silver in 2026.

It is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer, with numerous safety and environmental awards.

Here’s What You Can Expect In This Role
  • Oversee milling operations (grinding, flotation, processing) to ensure efficient silver extraction and coordinate with superintendents for day‑to‑day management.
  • Manage metallurgy and assay lab to ensure accurate ore analysis and timely reporting for optimal recovery.
  • Oversee water treatment plants, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and operational needs.
  • Drive safety, environmental, and quality compliance across all mill operations, working with superintendents to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Optimize milling processes to increase future throughput, recovery rates, and reduce costs while maintaining safety.
  • Coach and mentor superintendents, ensuring effective team performance and meeting production goals.
  • Manage budgeting and resource allocation to ensure milling activities stay within budget and resources are optimized.
  • Focus on process improvements to enhance mill performance and minimize downtime.
  • Help ensure mill equipment maintenance and PM’s are followed, collaborating with maintenance teams to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Monitor KPIs to track performance in efficiency, throughput, and safety, adjusting as needed.
  • Oversee dry‐stack tailings operations, ensuring safe and regulatory‐compliant handling and storage.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on mill performance, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Promote a strong environmental culture and environmentally friendly work practices.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and exemplify safe work practices throughout the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, metallurgy, chemical engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 15 years of related work experience, with at least 10 years of related management experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of milling methods and procedures.
  • Experience in the mining industry is required.
  • Good time management skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Well organized, works well independently and in team settings.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software, specifically MS Office, CMMS/ERP.
  • Project Management experience is desired.
Pre‑employment Requirements
  • Pre‑Employment Testing (drug & alcohol, blood lead, and audiogram)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract
