About this opportunity

Cenovus is seeking a highly experienced Montney Staff Geologist to join our Conventional Development team in Calgary. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Conventional Geoscience, you’ll play a key role in evaluating resource potential, interpreting competitor activity, and shaping long‑range development plans across all CDU Montney assets. Extensive Montney drilling and operational experience is critical to success in this role, enabling you to guide development decisions and influence multidisciplinary planning with confidence.

You bring deep expertise in Montney development and a strong grasp of the technical and commercial factors that drive performance in the play.

What you’ll do
  • Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and engineers to advance development of CDU’s Montney assets.

  • Apply a strong understanding of regional Montney success factors to guide team decisions and planning.

  • Support capital program planning, drilling execution, and operational activities.

  • Create geological maps, high‑grade inventory, and define drilling locations to support long‑range planning.

  • Evaluate A&D opportunities, mineral tenure expiries, and Crown land sale potential.

  • Contribute to Cenovus’s subsurface community through peer reviews, technical assurance, and knowledge sharing.

  • Generate new development ideas for core operating areas and provide mentorship to junior geologists.

Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Possess a Bachelor of Science or higher in Geology/Geoscience.

  • Minimum of 12+ years of related industry experience.

  • Registered with APEGA or another provincial professional association.

  • Skilled in geoscience software; experience with Geographix and Petrel is an asset.

  • Deep knowledge of Montney development and drilling, with expertise on the drivers of regional performance.
