Partner Staffing i s seeking on behalf of our Client an experienced and driven Senior Substation Engineer to join their dynamic team in Calgary. In this role, you will lead the design, analysis and implementation of high-voltage substation projects (typically 69kV to 500kV), supporting utilitiy, industrial and renewable energy clients across western Canada. You will work collaboratively with project managers, engineering teams and field staff to deliver technically sound and cost-effective solutions that meet regulatory and safety standards.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities:
- Lead detailed design and engineering of greenfield and brownfield substation projects, including physical layout, protection & control, grounding, and ancillarysystems
- Perform electrical studies,equipment specifications, technical reports, and design packages for new installations, upgrades, or expansions
- Prepare and review design documents, drawings (SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams), and constructionpackages
- Coordinate with other disciplines (civil, structural, telecom, SCADA, etc.) to ensure integrated and constructible designs
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers, review work for quality and technical accuracy
- Support project managers in estimating, scheduling, procurement, and client communication
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes (CSA, IEEE, NEC, NESC), utility standards, andsafety regulations
- Conduct site visits fordesign validation, commissioning support, and construction review
- Interface with clients,stakeholders, and regulatory bodies throughout project lifecycle
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree considered an asset)
- Minimum 8 years of experience insubstation engineering, including high-voltage design
- Professional Engineer(P.Eng.) registered or eligible for registration with APEGA
- Strong knowledge ofsubstation systems, including transformers, breakers, relays, protectionschemes, and grounding
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, CYME, or similar tools)
- Experience with utilitystandards and regulatory requirements in Alberta
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven leadership,problem-solving, and project coordination skills
- Valid driver’s license andability to travel to site locations as required
