West Jet is currently seeking a Powerplant Engineer to join our Calgary team. This individual will exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoy challenges, and is results driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment.
The Powerplant Engineer reports to the Director - Powerplant and is responsible for oversight of West Jet’s fleet engine, Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) and propeller life cycle including of, but not limited to, maintaining engineering controls, technical data review, shop visit forecasting, technical support, budget reporting, defining off wing scope of work, MRO shop visit control and oversight
Key deliverables include:
- Continual review of OEM and Type Certificate Holder’s Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) applicable to assigned areas with the intent to ensure a safe, compliant, and reliable fleet. All pertinent outcomes from this review to be distributed and considered for implementation
- Research, planning, implementation, and the support of technical changes from this review of these ICAs to powerplant configuration and maintenance program. These technical changes consist of powerplant and component service bulletins, service letters, major and minor modifications, repairs, and any other alterations made to the aircraft powerplant and aeronautical products
- Implement technical changes to the powerplant configuration and maintenance program in accordance with a standardized and comprehensive process to ensure a consistent, compliant product
- Develop and issue engineering actions with supporting documents, drawings, and manual revisions to accomplish changes to, powerplant and related components as applicable
- Develop procedures and specifications to extend the useful life of the powerplant and/or components
- Responsible for Powerplant maintenance program compliance, modification status reporting, and engineering assistance to all applicable teams within West Jet.
- Investigate problems and proposed modifications initiated by the requester, evaluate potential merits and provide or recommend solutions
- Attend industry meetings to keep informed on new technical developments and maintain proficiency in their field of engineering. Stay current with other operator’s and industry experience/current best practices
- Provide operational and technical support across the entire airline, as well as regulatory and compliance coordination with internal departments
- Develop and maintain short- and long-term Engine/APU shop visit and budget forecast for assigned products(s)
- Provide support and oversight of Engines/APUs/Propellers during shop visits, revise work scope and cost estimates
- Provide end engineering assistance and support for the day of operations and on-wing activities within Technical Services and Maintenance Control group as required, this includes working with vendors and OEM's to drive new solutions
- Provide assistance in developing revisions and corrections to Maintenance Programs, together with affected manuals, to meet the requirements of changing circumstances and regulatory requirements.
Experience and qualifications:
- AME license or Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
- Minimum 3-6 years’ experience working in an aircraft powerplant maintenance environment required
- Strong aircraft engine technical knowledge and experience
- Ability to understand and apply a wide variety of service, maintenance, engineering and repair documentation
- Experience with technical change implementation to aircraft configuration
- Ability to create engineering controls and task cards within CMTS
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite application (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Planner, SharePoint, One Drive)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with multiple cross departmental stakeholders
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and manage projects to successful completion on tight timeframes
- Proven planning and organizational skills as well as attention to detail
