As a Track Evaluation Car Department CO‑OP Student, you will work closely with experienced engineers to support the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of cutting‑edge rail inspection technologies. This unique position offers you the opportunity to bridge academic knowledge with practical application, both in office settings and out in the field. You will be actively involved in addressing complex engineering challenges, gaining invaluable hands‑on experience across diverse aspects of track evaluation.
As an immersive railroader in training, you’ll travel extensively — up to 100% across North America—making a tangible impact on the safety, reliability, and continuous improvement of our rail infrastructure.
- Support quality assurance and control processes
- Monitor track recording systems and data collection tools
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems
- Join office meetings, field meetings, and conference calls to support project coordination
- Effectively and professionally communicate with management to ensure clarity and support organizational objectives
- Assist with data processing and archiving
- Learn how railway engineering works—on the ground and in motion
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering at an accredited institution
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for data analysis and practical technical tasks
- Experience in Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Possess a valid driver’s license and passport with eligibility to travel throughout Canada and the U.S.
