Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer
We are seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our successful geotechnical engineering practice working throughout the lifecycle of projects from initiation to design to construction. The role is based in Downtown Calgary, Alberta, with travel across Canada and the U.S. This position will work with clients and team members in multiple locations, and while collaboration is valued, specific office time or schedules are not mandated.
MainResponsibilities
- Planning and overseeing geotechnical site investigations and monitoring installations, including managing staff, subconsultants, and subcontractors.
- Conducting site inspections at client sites and coordinating complex site investigations on site.
- Project management, including project planning, initiation, coordination, execution, and close‑out.
- Lead geotechnical design and analysis—including soil and rock engineering, soil dynamics, slope stability, deep and shallow foundations—supported by senior geotechnical staff.
- Lead reporting and technical writing, supported by senior geotechnical staff.
- Mentoring geotechnical junior engineers and EITs.
- Provide technical support for soil testing conducted by others.
- Provide technical and commercial input on proposals.
- Develop relationships with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering.
- Registered as a P.Eng. in Canada.
- At least 6 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software, including Geo Studio, LPile, APile, Settle3D, GIS mapping, and Open Ground/Holebase SI.
- Valid driver’s license and legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- Willingness to travel to remote sites as required on a project basis.
- Exposure to large civil earthworks construction projects.
- Experience with design, construction, operation, and inspection of dams.
- Flexible and open to changing priorities and multi‑tasking.
- Previous experience in geotechnical consultancy.
